<itunes:summary>Rolling for Change is a podcast that explores the therapeutic value of tabletop gaming. Is gaming really good for you? If so, what are the mechanisms and dynamics that make it possible? We intend to find out with monthly podcasts which will explore games, mechanics, themes, and other attributes of the tabletop culture. Not only that, but we will be talking to game designers, and others in the tabletop industry to get their opinion on the psychology behind some of our favorite games. We will also be looking at the function of tabletop gaming in the classroom, and in the therapy office. Finally we will look at the literature and studies regarding the tabletop hobby. Whether your interests are in party games, or role play, bidding, or hidden identity, we hope to gather the information and pose the questions that have been unanswered. We look forward to this new adventure, thanks for joining us.</itunes:summary>

About 3/4 of the way through, you will notice the absence of Josue...he had to go so we carried on.

We went to talk about the podcast and our vision for developing awareness of the way gaming is impacting us. We did not expect to have such an amazing audience or to discover stories of how games have impacted others. I believe what we are offering here in this episode is very special because the people that spoke to us from the audience were just amazing people, presenting their stories and allowing themselves to be vulnerable with us. I called it a church service because it really started to feel as if they were all coming to the pulpit to testify. It was a truly amazing experience for each of us and I am very happy to present it to you here.

We have had some hiccups, but we are still dedicated to getting this information out and to keeping the podcast running. We will have another one for you very soon.

In this first podcast from Pax Unplugged 2017, I spent some time walking around the convention and talking with game designers that caught my attention. One of the many goals of our podcast is to expose the games that bring us so much happiness, or in this case will be in the near future. As this is my first such walk around, please forgive the sound issues. I was pleased with how well the interviews stood out against the loud background of people at the convention. I was not pleased with the pops and sometimes unevenness in the sound. Despite that, I feel these interviews are worth your attention and I hope they will bring you a little bit of the flavor of the con.

In the next episode, Josue, Brian and myself are together live for the first time. We will be discussing a bit about Pax Unplugged and then we will get into talk about smack talk, and meta gaming. Stay tuned.

I know, I know, its been years since we last uploaded a new show. I apologize but I feel as if this one was worth the wait. We have an interview here with fellow gamer and therapist Autumn Hahn. I found Autumn on the BGG group talking about therapy and board games. That was all I needed to know that I wanted to know more about her and her practice. In this episode we discuss the role of gaming in therapy, trauma interventions, and Autumn's board game designs. I think you will enjoy the show, and we all appreciate your taking time out to listen to us.

This time around we bring on a good friend, David Skoog, to help us explore and discuss the role of boardgames in defining as well as proliferating oppression. We particularly discuss this in relation to culture and racist ideologies. The result is a rather deep dive that takes us on a far reaching journey. We hope you will enjoy this episode.

Hey guys,

This episode focuses on the game Bad Habit by Glen Given. It is a deduction game about non-suicidal self injury. As such please be aware that some of our discussion contains sensitive material and may not be suitable for all listeners.

Also of note here, the episode was recorded very early in the formulation of Rolling for Change. This means that the sound quality is to my ears quite bad. There is a huge learning curve in developing a podcast and sound editing, getting the right equipment, and the right software is part of that learning curve. I apologize for the sound but we felt the discussion and the interview were so worthwhile that they needed to be presented regardless of those challenges.

The following information comes from the webpage for Bad Habit:

If you or any friends/family needs help for self-harm and you’re not sure where to turn, call the S.A.F.E. Alternatives information line in the U.S. at (800) 366-8288 for referrals and support for cutting and self-harm. If you are in the middle of a crisis, feeling suicidal and need help right now, call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline in the U.S. at (800) 273-8255. For a suicide helpline outside the U.S., visit Befrienders Worldwide

Rolling for Change is a podcast that explores the therapeutic value of tabletop gaming. We look forward to this new adventure, thanks for joining us.
